Fans of Pete Townshend may be interested to know that Bo Diddley, one of the founding fathers of rock & roll and the popularizer of the world-famous "Bo Diddley beat", has announced that he will be launching his new website and online store this coming Thanksgiving. The website, which with typical idiosyncrasy he has named "Bo Bo Diddley's Turnup Root", is located at http://www.turnup-root.com/
In conjunction with his new website, Bo Diddley is currently also shaping up to release CDs of both brand new recordings as well as a series of exciting limited edition collectors' CDs of previously unreleased archive material recorded in his various home studios during the past 40 years. Right now, visitors to his website can shop online at Bo Diddley's Online Store powered by CafePress.com and purchase a range of cool-looking and exclusive limited edition items including T-shirts and sweatshirts.

Thanks for the great show in Grand Rapids last night. I have been a fan for years ( have all CD's), this was first time to see you live. I was blown away by the performance. John would be proud, and the tour honors his memory.

I have already posted a message to Peter (as he was known in our family) and I am rather surprised that I have not received any answer. As I said originally I am not after a nything, I just would like to have a cup of tea with him when and if he is coming to Tampa Florida in the near future, as I am a relative and I was dearly loved by his mother and also his grandfather, who was my dad's brother. I hope that this time my e-mail will be answered. If Peter needs any more information, I can tell things that only I am privy to as to what the name of his dad's mum was and also what my dad did at his wedding. Dear Peter, I am going to send you a long e0mail because I have a very close relationship with you from when you were a little boy, my dad was Patsy Dennis - your grandad's brother and I spent many lovely weekends with your mum my Aunty Betty, you can tell from this that I am not someone who is telling a fib. I have tried to see you a couple of times, but it was always refused, I should really like us to have a cup of tea the next time you are in the Tampa area of Florida which is near where I live. You were fourand five years of age when we used to take your little white dog for a walk on Ealing Common and I saw your dad a few times but mostly he was away performing with the Squadronaires dance band. My dad passed away last year at the age of 91 and my mum died at the age of 81 in 1994. I know that Betty also died I was always kept informed by dad. I really look forward to hearing from you when you have a few minutes Peter. I saw you on the tv. the other day at the memorial to your dear friend Entwhistle, he is now in God's hands.
Maggie Toon previously Maureen Dennis daughter of Patrick Dennis. My e-mail address is maggiescritters@citicom.com and my home telephone number is 727-781-8331 and my address in Florida is 928, Gillespie Dr. Palm Harbor, Fl. 34684

Hi Pete,
firstly Johns death shocked me a lot.One of my favourite heroes was suddenly away. The next message wich shocked me,was the News, that "THE WHO" will continue the Tour ! The show must go on,that´s what also John wanted, because he was an extraordianry musican and entertainer. And from my view,he was the Hendrix for bass players. Of course another bassplayer will adapt his lines, but can he be so strong as John.
John was an unique voice in the bass playêr league.Someone, whom I can copy by CDs or LPs,,but not in his live style.John was always the peaceful anglepoint of the Who.In hot Water he was the Rock. The Angle Point of the Who.Keith was already a big loss. But John is missing much more. Now it seems, like the Who are the two solo violins in a string quartett without cello and viola.
John had an unique style.I don´t want to see Stanley Clarke, not Doug Wimbish, not Flea, not Fieldy, not Tony Levin....All of them have not the sound of John ! Maybe only John Wetton, could be a choice ! Or me ?
I have learnt a lot about Johns playing. Know how he could shimmer between different frequencies without using an EQ. John was my heroe as bassplayer at first and will it be at last. Wether Jaco, nor Stanley, nor Graham, or Hodgkinson could change my Style.
All guitatists say, they are influenced by Hendrix, well,I am influenced as bassplayer by John Alec Entwistle.
Good Luck for the Tour.
Martin

I was fishing when my dad thought he heard of Johns passing I prayed that he was wrong, we thought that the tour would be canceled, but dad thought I think the band will think what John wanted, and John would want for the band to rock n roll and show the bands like U2 Kiss that their just a bunch of pussies tennie popers. Isaid I was pondering the same thing. I aint heard of the band till this year and theire stuff just does not click. Now John can see for miles and miles in heaven and he will be fucken jamming with you guys well you are Rocken in your finest hour and year . You guys were going to meake more music. I say this Nolan Ryan never learned how to throw no fucking curve ball like an expert becsue his #1 pitch was a fastball in other words why some shitty songs when your fastballs get the job done with an added 100% I started crying when I heard you were going to reschedile and knew for a fact that Rock n rollers never die! When we heard that you were going to play Hollywood bowl we had our hopes that you were going to play at the Verizon, but when we heard arrow say no, we were bummed and nervous and we finaly got on ticket masters and got the cheaperst tickets so when can be there. But we found out you are to play at the verizon and now were stuck with two sets up tick what a great problem to have. This will be KNIGHTs first who concert for my dad, brother and I. I said my prayer for John and right he is hapiers then a dog in heat. Well we are ready to get down and party for this SHOW, when hear some people screaming Behind blue eyes that will be us. God bless you Pete and the band and your family and all the good people in the world. Everybody says God bless no becsue of 911, I do not day it becsue taht I say it because I mean it and I am no hipicrite, People may say we US is the best country, which a may be, but ENGland has the best bands in the World and we both no that is no bull shot. See you Monday for sure The Knights

Aloha Pete
So sorry to here of Johns death. My sixteen year old daughter flew from Hawaii on Wed, the 26th to see you play in Irvine Ca.. It was a dream come true for her. You and your band mates are her favorite vband and she had dreamed of seeing you live for several years. Daron always said, I just want to see them before they stop touring or die. So when she found out about this tour she saved money to fly over and see your concert. Sadly the day after she arrived to CA. the news came of Johns death. Her dream was pulled out from under her feet along with thousands of others and all of your families. As a mother I am now tring to see what I can do to get her to another show before she has to return to Hawaii in two weeks. I do hope luck is on my side and I find a way to have her dream come true to see you live. All I can say is she has great taste in music and all of her favorite bands are now longer touring or as with John passing on. She too is a muscisian, Taiko is what she plays, so the drummers are always one of her favorites.
We wish you all well and hope the show goes on. Your music makes many of us very happy.

Hello, Pete, if you happen to read this, just let me tell you 3 things that are important to me. First concert I ever saw was The Who in palais des sports, paris. I was 13, and you all gave me the passion of my life: Rock n roll. Thanx for that, it still keeps me alive, now that i'am getting old. 2nd thing: I am 44 now,but i still happen, sometimes, to put Join Together or Let's see action, won't get fooled again, on the stereo, play it as loud as i can, imaginary guitar in my hand, as if i were 14 with all a life to look forward... this is a unique feeling i only feel with your riffs and solos. your music makes me feel as if i still were young. LAst thing. i dont' find a lot of good records to buy nowadays; i recently bought most of your solo works, from who came first and the remix album with ronnie lane, to your recent live stuff. People of course know your a great guitarist and composer, but i also want to tell you are a fuckin great singer. there is a lot of humanity and emotion in your voice. Thanks for all, and hope you'll get old before you die!!! Hervé from france herve@resse.Com

Greetings Pete, I had the unique oppurtunity of sneaking into your dressing room and leaving a letter for you a few years back ( '96 Quadrophenia tour- Pittsburgh Pa stop ). My name is Ryan and just wanted to get you guys to put a pittsburgh dare on the summer 2002 tour. So if ya get this please do. I'll see if Mick Double will let back there again...although you would probably tell me to fuck off...depending on which persona you take on that day (ha,ha). Anyhow...I'll see you guys in Hershey Pa in July. Later.

Dear Pete,
I'm a really big fan of yours. I'm really looking forward to the new Who album and I hope the Who will come to play in Holland again. I have a really important question (in my opinion). It's about your musical-equipment. I have been trying to find the answer for the last year (!!), but I can't figure it out. I think you have got the best sound of all the guitarists I know. I own a Gibson SG (P90) and a Fender Vibro King-Amplifier (I can't carry a Hiwatt stack, otherwise I would have bought one). For an overdrive I use a Electro Harmonix Big Muff and a Proco Rat. It's quite like your sound as on the live at Leeds album (with a bit echo) but still it isn't that sound. I know the most important soundproviding things are your fingers which I can't copy, but can you please tell me something about your equipment (especially the stomp-boxes)you used over the years??? All of my books and video's don't say or show it.
Thank you very much Pete. Hope to see you in Holland soon.

hallo mr. townshend, it is time to say "thank you". for all the hours of joy and inspiration when i listened to your music. the first time i got contact with you and the who was in 1980 (i was twelve) as i stole a book in a store. the title was "long live rock" and i was fazinated. it was the first time i felt music must be more than only fun. then i bought "live at leeds"- wow. i grown up with jazzmusic like duke ellington (from my fathers side) and the music my older brothers heard (steamhammer, pink floyd, golden earring and such things). the who was the first group i discovered by myself. your first soloalbum i bought was "empty glass", i loved it and love it today too. now i like jazz, miles davies and freddie hubbard are my favorite jazzmusicans. but your songs are the greatest for me, they touch my heard and move my emotions. i think you are one of greatest contemporary composers. thorstenarnow@hotmail.com

Dear,Pete Townshend & "Who"!
Let me call you so and the reason is that first I heard you in far,far 1966 -s,when your disk "A Quick One" appeared.I was shocked.I opened something new for me,something unknown at that time it was unlike the other music, music which being unlike the other, impressed me,by it sinkere kindness. And when I saw your photo, can't forget it till nowadays.Every time, having got your next disk with great difficulty,as the prices were and remain today too high(but usually it takes a lot of time before we can listen to your next disk) I immersed in your music world and imagined as if,I were together with you.Unforgettable time! You had everything on your way:success and disappointment, but the time proved that your are "the qiants of music"!I am glad with to every you success still many, many years.I always wanted to know about your as much .I'm interested in both: your life and work. Will you, please help me,if it's possible to know more about you not only as a musitian but as a person. We can understand music though the musitians thoughts and soul even if we don't understand the words in English.I would like to speak with you about everything. But it's a pity it's not possible to write everything in a letter.A letter is the only means communication with you ... The only hope to meet you and and to speak with you it' your concert. But in fortunately it's very difficult.Heardly I when nor be able arrive in England single hope if you will arrive in Russia,we without fall a meet.Dreams... Dear,Pete Townshend & "Who"! I'm very sorry, but I have a request for you. Will you please send me your photo with your original autographs or just an answer on my letter. For me it would like... a present equal "the flight to the moon"! Oh,GOD!But it's just a dream,I even can't hope for it.There are no miracles in reality!? Having finishing my letter let me wish you everything a person can wish to his friends:a successful work and a lot of happiness in your life, and also to continue gladden your admirers with your songs.Thank the time thas has presented us such a wonderful musician and mans .I want you to be happy and always young! We love and always will be with you.

Heya,
This weekend I recorded a version of Townshend's Substitute for fellow Who-Fans to check out.
I've been listening to the band for 20 years now. (wow!) More than 2/3 of my life.
You can find the story and the free MP3 at: http://bartlebymusic.com (Press the SOUND button)
Let me know what you think.
Thanks!

hey. my names tom, and i'm 14 years old. i can't say i've been there from the beginning, or that i was there to see your first concert, or bought your first single when it came out. because i'm not old enough. however, i do know that your music has brought something in me that i didn't know before, and my deepest regret was not being able to see you in concert. the society today is horrible, especially in music. we've got three-guy bands playing three chords over and over again and singing a stupid set of lyrics over it, or we've got "pop divas" showing way too much skin, singing uinoriginal and not-their-own musik. no, its musak. guitar is lost. the soul of the guitar has been drowned by capitalism, commercialism, and silly pop bands. we need another who. but sadly, there is no replacement. rock's days are over, i fear. all we have are a few great albums from the 60s, 70s, and even 80s. hopefully, a wonderband will come and revolutionize music into what it should be. real rock music.

recently i've been listening to a lot of the who. i think they created a new kind of rock music because i have become so spiritually bined with a couple of their albums that i don't know what would happen if they were taken from me. i still think you should pursue your lifehouse project. it was an awesome idea.

G'day Pete, If there is one thing that comes out of the code of secrecy wherever it applies, it's that you never know who's WHO ! I found this facility out to-day and thought I'd give it a go. I'm flying over to England in a couple of weeks and I'm also thinking about whether to make a day trip to the land of the Dutch to watch their windmills go round. You see there is something about the windmill action that somehow reminds of a similar action I've seen somewhere from someone in the past. Just another who's WHO factor I suppose. Regard's from ASUNDER from DOWN UNDER.

Dear Pete,
I've got a question. In the Sixties you worn a patterned jacked. A blue one with green (brown) sleeves. I'm a big fan of Oasis. In their video "There & Then" Noel Gallagher wear the same one. I tried to read the name of the brand, sth. like ROCFIELD or POCFIELD. I don't know. Which brand is it and where can I buy such a jacked? I will be happy when you will answere me.
Thank you

Dear Pete, I still listen to your solo stuff more than any other music conbined. I thank God for you and your talents, and I thank you for sharing them with the world.I was 13 in '79 when i first saw a Who record, fell in love with Roger's face, but then i found out it was YOUR lyrics he was singing, and I have been your fan ever since. I was at Amnesty Interational the day you couldn't play as scheduled because of your dad's illness. Three guys got so upset that you weren't going to play, and they trashed their seats. I enjoyed Horse's Neck, and I wish you would write more books. I can't get "ALL THE BEST COWBOYS" on CD. It is DRIVING ME NUTS! I had to buy a turntable so I can listen to this album. Keep on rocking. I am here, waiting for your next project with anticipation. Love, Lisa lhalpin@whcom.com

Hi Pete
Let me start by saying I think The Who rock and the Baba O'Reily and Won't get fooled again are probably 2 of the greatest songs ever recorded. I would also like to point out that is seems to be going off on Rogers message board, http://www.rogerdaltrey.com/read_RD.html , there are all these people asking Roger for DIY advice, I dunno man, like, what's that all about, and now a big argument seems to have broken out, it's real heavy shit over there. Anyway, good luck with the tour and saving the planet. Pete Black, Croydon

Dear Mister Townshend! My name is Peter. I'm 17 and I come from Germany. Sorry for my English but I try my best. I'm a really big fan of your music and the music of The Who. Greatest day of my life was as I saw The Who a few years ago in Frankfurt/ Germany. The reason why I am such a big fan is my father. I think he is one of the biggest Who Fans ever. He has got each Record. And now his absolutely favourite is your Livehouse Record and I also think that this record is amazing. Next year he'll be 50 and his biggest wish in his life is to talk to you or to meet you or to get a letter or something else. He would say: "Now I can die, I've now all I ever wanted!" I think you won't never read what I'm writing you now, but i try everything I can. I'll give you now my e-mail address. You can send me a message. It would be the greatest for my Dad and also for me. kpeterKirch@gmx.de . I would be so thankful for a message. Your Fan Peter

Dear Mr Townsend, You released a single (solo) in about 1978 -79, which featured a young school girl singing the verse. It was brilliant, but I have been unable to find it or remember its title. Was it 'Peppermint Love' or something similar? I was 12 at the time, which is why I can't remember.

Dear PETE!
As a young girl, my brother with the impeccable musical taste, told me that there was this incredible new group from the tough side of London, called The Who, that I had to hear. I knew right then and there, that just by the name, I would have to sit up and take notice. I often thought that your name might be The What, as I wasn't sure that I was getting the pronoun straight!
As years passed, and Tommy came out, which we studied in chorus dilligently, it was expressed that Pete Townsend's talent was no ordinary talent. This was the kind that grew over time. From that point on, I listened to your music attentively for every thought and strength that came through it. And indeed, your music not only has had the elements of deep thought and perception, self-respect and love, but most definitely, STRENGTH .
And in another way, another strength: aside from the musical aspect, it is so wonderful to see how you are supporting an important cause such as this website. With your help, it strengthens the thought that we can all lend a hand to help one another, to make the earth a better and safer place to live.
You are such an inspiration!!!
Best regards,
Lauren

Hi Pete, Could you please send me information regarding how I can purchase the "Lifehouse" project cds. Also, I really enjoyed your "Cash For Questions" in the January issue of Q.
It's a pity that The 'Oo haven't seen fit to re-emerge for some live shows in the UK this year. However, having said that your solo show @ The Empire, Shephards Bush was excellent, with some clever re-workings of classic PT songs. The white rapper was stunning! Any plans for a live album from this concert?
Keep up the good work, stay cool, stay who you are. And, thanks for giving me so much pleasure listening to your music over the past 30+ years.

Ps I've seen The Who 8 times in Chgo. post Keith Moon. My dedication to the band was a tatoo, from Quadrophenia. It's the circle with three triangles with THE WHO in the middle. It's 3" across. Last year at the House of Blues in Chgo. They were filming out in back. They took approx. 2 min of video, of my tatoo. If you saw the film. That was me. ;-) Cheers!!!!

Hi Pete,
I am just another average huge fan of yours, been following you since 1981 and saw you and the Who at the CNE in T.O. in 82. Just wondering why you or The Who never play in Ottawa. The city is full of who fans and you would have no trouble selling out the Corel Center which is equivalent in size to the Molson Center in Montreal where I also saw you and The Who during your Quadrophenia tour in 97. We'd love to have you if you ever tour. It would be a day that forever lived in Ottawa's history if you were to ever come back.
